The Capital Wheel at National Harbor is being used by expectant parents to discover the genders of their unborn children.
The Ferris wheel lights have been used to commemorate a number of events and celebrations, but not until recently have parents been able to borrow it.
Melissa Norris, the marketing coordinator for National Harbor, said that it was at the suggestion of one of her coworkers that it would be the perfect gender reveal tool.
“And when I heard that idea it was, no pun intended, but the light bulb went off and I’m like, that’s brilliant. Yes, come on down,” Melissa said.
“Seeing the joy and excitement and these milestone moments, allowing us to be a part of that is second to none.”
She says the wheel has been used over 30 times by new parents now who find the spectacle a great way to celebrate their pregnancy.
The Jones family waited until the sun went down to see the Ferris wheel LED lights display. Mom thinks the baby will be a boy, while dad is certain it’s a girl. The couple wore a pink hat and a blue dress to support team girl and team boy.
The pivotal moment came and mom was right — it’s a boy. The couple opened up the official doctors’ results to see a scan of their baby boy.
